C++/CX is a language extension for C++ that allows the creation of Windows Store apps using the Windows Runtime component. It's part of Microsoft's initiative to modernize and simplify application development for their platforms by supporting both DirectX graphics models and COM-like APIs through simplified syntax features like automatic reference counting, type system extensions, and exception handling mechanisms similar to .NET languages.
