Lingo is a scripting language used in Adobe Director, an authoring software for creating interactive content and applications. By writing scripts in Lingo, developers can define the behavior of elements within a Director project, including sprites and buttons. The language's syntax is derived from HyperTalk which was popularized by Apple Inc.’s HyperCard. Lingo has been crucial to the development of multimedia CD-ROMs during its peak in the 1990s through early 2000s but has seen declining use with online content moving towards HTML5-based technologies that favor platforms like JavaScript and WebAssembly.
