Source is a video game development engine created by Valve. It debuted in 2004 with the release of Half-Life 2 and has since been updated to Source 2. The engine’s physics engine, which allows for more immersive gameplay, and its support for advanced shading and animation systems are some of its defining features. Over time, multiple iterations of the Source Engine have powered many critically acclaimed titles such as Portal series, Left 4 Dead series, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), and Team Fortress 2. Many community modifications also continue to be built using the Source Software Development Kit (SDK).
