MIIS (Microsoft Identity Integration Server) is a now-obsolescent server product designed to simplify identity management within an enterprise. Its successor, Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager (FIM), builds on the MIIS technology. The platform enables smart card and digital certificate deployments while supporting a variety of directory services and maintaining low administrative overhead for medium to large-sized organizations. MIIS provided a synchronization service of data between systems and connected different types of directories, databases, and applications through management agents to provision or deprovision identities across an organization's IT infrastructure.
