Skype

Skype is a telecommunications application enabling users to engage in video chats and voice calls using microphones, webcams, and instant messaging over the internet. It offers free Skype-to-Skype calls while charging fees for calls to landlines and mobiles via Skype Credit or subscriptions. Created in 2003 by Priit Kasesalu, Ahti Heinla, Janus Friis, and Niklas Zennström at the Estonian division of Tele2, it was later further developed by Friis and Zennström who previously co-founded Joost and Kazaa.
