Skype is a telecommunications application that provides video chat and voice call services. Users can communicate with each other by using microphones, webcams, and instant messaging over the internet. Skype-to-Skype calls are free of charge, while calls to landlines and mobile phones can be made for a fee using a subscription or Skype Credit. It was created in 2003 by Priit Kasesalu and Ahti Heinla at the Estonian division of Tele2 and later developed by Janus Friis from Denmark and Niklas Zennström from Sweden who were also the co-founders of Joost and Kazaa. The Skype software was created by Estonians Ahti Heinla, Priit Kasesalu, Jaan Tallinn, and Toivo Annus who together with Friis and Zennström were also behind the Peer to Peer service Kazaa.
