Ten 2027 tech conferences for engineering leaders, with every date checked against the organizer's own site and labeled confirmed, announced, or expected.

November 5, 2026• Updated on November 6, 2026

AI has set off a boom in tech conferences. Today, engineering leaders have more options than they can attend.

Established organizers are adding AI-specific events to their calendars. InfoQ, which runs QCon, launched QCon AI events in New York in December 2026 and Boston in July 2027. The AI Engineer series now runs events in New York, San Francisco, and London, in addition to its flagship World’s Fair.

To help you find the events that will keep you current, Howdy’s editorial team rounded up the best tech conferences for engineering leaders in 2027:

TL;DR

The strongest 2027 tech conferences for engineering leaders are LDX3 London (June 28 to 29) and LDX3 New York (September 8 to 9) for management, QCon London (April 13 to 15) for architecture, KubeCon Europe (March 15 to 18) for platform teams, and Web Summit Rio (June 14 to 17) for LatAm reach. Several other 2027 dates are still unannounced.

  • Confirmed on organizer sites as of November 5, 2026: LDX3 London, LDX3 New York, QCon London, QCon AI Boston, KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe, and SXSW, whose Innovation conference runs March 15 to 20 in Austin.
  • Not yet announced: QCon San Francisco, AWS re:Invent, and Nerdearla's 2027 editions. The AI Engineer World's Fair organizer lists June 2027 in San Francisco without exact days.
  • Price to watch: QCon London is one of the pricier events on this list, and its early pricing tiers rise as the event approaches.
  • Free LatAm option: Nerdearla is free to attend and streams every session.

The state of engineering leadership in 2026

Engineering leaders head into 2027 with more to learn and less slack to learn it. The LeadDev Engineering Leadership Report 2026, based on 600 responses collected in March and April 2026, found that 77% of leaders now name AI for internal use as their top engineering priority, up from 45% a year earlier. 73% plan to build skills in managing AI agents, up from 60%. That work is landing on people who are already stretched: 45% of leaders work more hours than a year ago, and 54% of CTOs feel emotionally drained at least once a week, up from 24% in 2025.

Howdy’s own surveys show that pressure reaching the rest of the team. In Howdy’s February 2025 survey of 804 tech workers, respondents spent an average of 3.6 hours a week learning about AI, up from 2.4 hours in 2024. Training hasn’t kept pace with that effort. In Howdy’s June 2025 survey of 1,047 full-time professionals who use AI, 25% of those expected to use AI at work had received no training.

The best tech conferences for engineering leaders in 2027

How we chose:

  • The event gives leaders something specific: a leadership, Staff+, or architecture track, deep coverage of technology their teams own, or a regional or free option for distributed teams.
  • Talks come from practitioners and are chosen by an editorial or community committee.
  • The 2027 edition is confirmed or announced, or the event has a steady annual pattern we can point to.
  • Inclusion is editorial. No organizer paid or asked to be listed.

The list is grouped by the job you're hiring the conference to do. Each date carries a status. Confirmed means we read it on the organizer's own site. Announced means it appears in multiple event listings, but we haven't yet read it on the organizer's site. Expected means the organizer hasn't published dates, so we're going by past editions.

For engineering managers and directors

1. LDX3 London

What it is: LeadDev's flagship London event, which LeadDev bills as a festival for modern engineering leadership. LDX3 brought LeadDev, StaffPlus, and LeadingEng together into one event in 2026, with a Director+ track and a workshop track. LDX3 London returns June 28 to 29, 2027, and pre-sale tickets are already on sale.

Why it made the list: It's built specifically for people who manage engineers, and LeadDev's research arm publishes the annual Engineering Leadership Report that frames much of the program.

Best for: Engineering managers, managers of managers, and Staff+ engineers who want management craft and AI-era team design in the same two days.

Start with: The Director+ track if you manage managers. Check the 2027 agenda when it publishes, since tracks can change year to year.

Trade-offs: London travel adds cost for US teams, and ticket prices weren't public on the pages we checked.

2. LDX3 New York

What it is: The same LDX3 format in New York, set for September 8 to 9, 2027, with 2027 pre-sale tickets available now.

Why it made the list: It gives US teams the LDX3 program without a transatlantic flight, and the September slot leaves room to act on what you learn before Q4 planning.

Best for: US-based engineering managers and directors, especially on the East Coast.

Start with: Pair it with LeadDev's free online content and newsletter so the team arrives with shared context.

Trade-offs: Agenda and pricing for 2027 aren't published yet, so budget from the pre-sale page.

For architecture and senior technical leaders

3. QCon London

What it is: InfoQ's three-day conference for senior software engineers, architects, and team leads, held April 13 to 15, 2027, at the QEII Centre, with an optional certification day on April 16. QCon London says an international committee of working engineers selects every session.

Why it made the list: The program favors patterns and practices over product pitches, and the 2027 lineup already includes a Staff++ track on the non-technical side of senior roles.

Best for: CTOs, chief architects, and Staff+ engineers making long-lived technical decisions.

Start with: The Staff++: Beyond the Tech track, then the AI systems sessions.

Trade-offs: It's one of the pricier options, and early pricing tiers rise as the event approaches.

4. QCon AI Boston

What it is: A focused two-day QCon event on AI engineering, set for July 8 to 9, 2027, at Boston University's George Sherman Union.

Why it made the list: It narrows QCon's practitioner format to the topic leaders rank first right now: AI for internal use.

Best for: Engineering leaders who own AI adoption and want case studies from teams that already shipped.

Start with: Send the person who owns your AI tooling budget.

Trade-offs: Agenda and pricing aren't published yet.

5. Craft Conference

What it is: A software craft conference organized by CraftHub in Budapest and usually held at the Hungarian Railway Museum. Event listings show June 3 to 4, 2027.

Why it made the list: Its speaker lineups mix engineering leadership with hands-on craft, and organizers expected over 2,000 attendees from more than 50 countries in 2026.

Best for: Tech leads and senior engineers, plus managers who want to stay technical.

Start with: The free warm-up meetups Craft runs in Budapest before the main event.

Trade-offs: We haven't yet read the 2027 dates on craft-conf.com, so confirm before booking.

For AI engineering leaders

6. AI Engineer World's Fair

What it is: The flagship event of the AI Engineer conference series. The organizer's 2027 page lists June 2027 in San Francisco without exact days.

Why it made the list: It is where teams building with LLMs and agents compare what works in production, which matches the skill most leaders plan to build next.

Best for: Leaders of AI platform or applied AI teams, and CTOs who personally prototype with agents.

Start with: Join the organizer's mailing list to catch the date announcement and early pricing.

Trade-offs: It's practitioner-heavy and moves fast, so it suits hands-on leaders more than pure people managers.

For platform and infrastructure leaders

7. KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe

What it is: The Cloud Native Computing Foundation's flagship European event, set for March 15 to 18, 2027, in Barcelona. The first day hosts CNCF co-located events.

Why it made the list: It's a community event with a rule against vendor sales pitches in talks, and the co-located day covers platform engineering topics in depth.

Best for: VPs of infrastructure, platform engineering leads, and SRE leaders. KubeCon North America (listed for November 8 to 11, 2027, in New Orleans) covers the same ground for US teams.

Start with: The co-located events on March 15, which are smaller and easier to navigate than the main conference.

Trade-offs: It's large and deeply technical, so it's a poor fit for leaders who don't own infrastructure.

For CTOs and founders who sell, hire, and network

8. SXSW Innovation Conference

What it is: The technology and business track of SXSW, running March 15 to 20, 2027, in downtown Austin. SXSW EDU runs March 13 to 16.

Why it made the list: SXSW moved Innovation programming to a Monday to Friday schedule for 2027 to line up with business travel, and Austin is one of the largest US tech hubs.

Best for: CTOs and founders who want investor, customer, and hiring conversations in one trip.

Start with: If you're based in Austin, SXSW offers better badge rates for buyers with an Austin ZIP code.

Trade-offs: The program is broad and only partly about engineering. The Austin Convention Center is under construction, so 2027 runs as a pop-up village across downtown.

For LatAm reach and distributed teams

9. Web Summit Rio

What it is: Web Summit's LatAm event at Riocentro, listed for June 14 to 17, 2027. The 2026 edition drew 40,287 participants, according to Web Summit.

Why it made the list: Its scale makes it useful for leaders building teams or selling in LatAm.

Best for: CTOs and founders with LatAm hiring or market plans, and LatAm-based leaders on distributed teams.

Start with: Plan side meetings with your Brazil-based team members, who can reach Rio on a domestic flight.

Trade-offs: The audience leans toward startups and investors. We haven't yet read the 2027 dates on rio.websummit.com.

10. Nerdearla

What it is: A free technology event for the Spanish-speaking tech community. Its 13th Buenos Aires edition ran September 22 to 26, 2026, at Ciudad Cultural Konex, with editions in Santiago, Mexico City, and Madrid. Nerdearla hasn't published 2027 dates yet.

Why it made the list: Attendance is free and every session streams, so a distributed team can join from anywhere at no ticket cost.

Best for: LatAm engineers and the leaders who manage them, especially teams in Argentina, Chile, and Mexico.

Start with: Have your LatAm team members attend in person and share the streams with the rest of the team.

Trade-offs: Sessions serve a Spanish-speaking audience, and 2027 dates are unconfirmed.
