Parse was created in 2011 by Tikhon Bernstam, James Yu, Kevin Lacker, and Ilya Sukhar to simplify backend development for mobile applications. It provided developers with a platform to manage data storage, user authentication, and other backend services. In 2013, Facebook acquired Parse to enhance its mobile development capabilities. Despite its popularity, Facebook announced the shutdown of Parse in 2016, transitioning it to an open-source project for continued community use.

Its weaknesses involved limited scalability for large-scale applications and reliance on community support after Facebook's shutdown.
