Best Nearshore QA Automation Staffing Companies in Latin America

A side-by-side look at eight LatAm options for hiring a dedicated QA automation engineer, with models, published pricing, and how to test real fit.

November 5, 2026• Updated on November 6, 2026

It’s a familiar scene on a software team without a dedicated QA automation engineer:

The feature is merged, the release is scheduled, and the regression suite still runs by hand the night before. Someone on the team knows Cypress, nobody owns the suite, and every flaky test gets a retry instead of a fix.

This is often the moment when an engineering leader starts looking for a dedicated QA automation engineer in LatAm, sifting through dozens of providers promising vetted talent in US time zones. This guide compares models side by side.

TL;DR

For a dedicated QA automation engineer who joins your sprints for the long term, pick a staffing partner that employs the professional locally while your team owns test strategy. Howdy, Revelo, Interfell, and Tecla run that model. Hire With Near and Nearshore Business Solutions also recruit for direct hire. Abstracta fits teams that want testing delivered as a managed service.

  • Embedded staffing puts a full-time QA engineer in your team. Under an employer of record (EOR), the provider handles employment, payroll, and compliance; under a contractor of record (COR), it handles contracts, payments, and compliance for an independent contractor; under direct contracts or recruiting-only models, more of that falls to you.
  • Managed QA fits audits, certification pushes, and one-off releases where a vendor owns the deliverable.
  • Published monthly figures include different things: All-in rates run from $3,000 (Interfell's 2027 rate table) to $10,700 (Revelo, checked November 2026), some providers publish only candidate pay, and BairesDev and Abstracta quote through a sales call.
  • Stated time to first candidates ranges from 24 hours (Howdy) to 3 to 5 business days (Hire With Near, Nearshore Business Solutions).
  • Verify Cypress or Playwright depth, CI integration, and API testing yourself with a short, paid work sample.

The state of QA automation hiring in 2026

Demand for testers keeps growing while automation maturity lags. The scarce hire is the engineer who can build and own a suite.

For context, here’s what the latest data shows:

  • The median annual wage for US software QA analysts and testers was $104,300 in May 2025, across about 187,600 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • The BLS projects QA employment to grow 6% from 2025 to 2035, double the 3% average for all occupations.
  • Organizations automate an average of 33% of test cases, according to the World Quality Report 2025-26 from Capgemini, Sogeti, and OpenText, which surveyed 2,000 executives in 23 countries.
  • In the same report, 47% of organizations are still planning an enterprise automation strategy, and only 10% have quality engineers embedded within Agile teams.
  • Respondents rank Gen AI (63%) just ahead of core QE skills (60%) as the most important skill for quality engineers, and the report recommends replacing outdated frameworks with modern tools such as Playwright.
  • In LatAm, a mid-level QA engineer costs $2,800 (Chile) to $5,000 (Peru) per month, all-inclusive, and a senior QA engineer $4,200 (Mexico, Brazil) to $6,900 (Peru), per Howdy’s salary data in its QA engineer cost guide (updated October 2026). For other engineering roles, see Howdy’s 2025 Latin America software developer salaries.

Why I wrote this

I'm Maria Cristina, Senior Editor, Global Hiring at Howdy. Choosing who supplies the engineer guarding your releases is a big decision. I wrote this guide to put the hiring models, each provider’s terms, and a practical skills test in one place. I worked hard to hold Howdy to the same standard as everyone else, trade-offs included.

How we compared providers

We compared each provider against the same six criteria, using its own pages as of November 2026. The list is unranked; best-for labels describe fit, not scores. Salary ranges by country live in Howdy's QA engineer cost guide; this page compares providers.

  • Engagement model: Who employs the professional, who directs the work, and who owns QA outcomes, confirmed on each provider's own site.
  • Documented QA automation screening: Whether the provider states it tests Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, CI-integrated suites, or API testing. A tool named in marketing copy counts as a claim until the provider documents how it tests for it.
  • Pricing structure and terms: Fee model, whether rates are published, trial or replacement terms, and contract length.
  • Speed: Stated time to first candidates and to a hire.
  • English and US-hour overlap: How each provider says it verifies English and which countries it covers.
  • Post-hire support: Replacement policy, retention data, and ongoing support the provider documents.

Embedded QA staffing vs managed QA outsourcing

The first decision is who owns quality. With embedded staffing, a QA automation engineer works full time inside your product team, takes direction from your engineering manager, and builds the suite your developers run every day. Depending on the structure (COR, EOR, or another arrangement), the provider may handle employment, payroll, and compliance in the professional's country, so confirm what each contract assigns to you. Your team owns the test strategy, the framework, and the release gate.

With managed QA outsourcing, a testing vendor owns a deliverable: a regression suite, a test plan, a certification push, or a release sign-off. The vendor manages its own testers and reports results back. That suits audits, one-off launches, and teams with no QA lead to direct the work.

Several providers on this list sell both models, so confirm which one a contract describes. BairesDev, for example, describes staff augmentation as engineers working under the client's direction and outsourcing as BairesDev managing the team and delivery. A third path is recruiting only: The provider finds the engineer and you employ them through your own entity or an employer of record (EOR).

The providers, reviewed

Each review follows the same layout so the options compare line by line. Tools and terms come from each provider's own pages as of November 2026.

1. Howdy: Best for long-term embedded QA hires with retention support

Howdy is a global workforce partner that builds embedded engineering teams for US companies, with QA engineers among the software development roles it fills. Professionals work full time inside the partner's product team. Howdy structures each hire as COR (its primary model), EOR, a direct contract, or a custom arrangement, and, under COR or EOR, handles the in-country engagement for the partner. It hires in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay.

Strengths

  • First candidate presented within 24 hours of opening a search, with hires made in 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Four-stage vetting that under 5% of candidates pass, run by a recruiting team that includes 31 full-time psychologists trained as recruiters.
  • Over 98% of Howdy professionals stay with their partners through the first two years, based on Howdy's internal placement data.
  • Inclusions cover equipment, access to 11 Howdy Houses (10 in LatAm plus Austin), performance coaches with 10+ years of experience, AI training, and English programs.
  • No startup, recruiting, or sourcing fees, no long-term contracts, no cancellation fees, and no minimum term. If a hire doesn't work out, Howdy finds a new candidate from its pre-vetted network.

Trade-offs

  • Coverage spans seven countries, a smaller footprint than providers that recruit across 18 or more.
  • Howdy staffs embedded professionals and does not sell managed testing deliverables, so the partner's team needs to own QA strategy and direction.

Pricing structure: One transparent, all-inclusive monthly rate per professional, with no hidden add-on fees. The rate includes a 15% Howdy management fee, and for technical roles it also covers benefits and local costs.

Best for: Midmarket and enterprise teams adding one or several QA automation engineers who will stay with the product for years, and who want employment, retention, and professional development handled.

Howdy's case studies show how partners have built embedded teams through this model.

2. Interfell: Best for published rates by country tier

Interfell has connected Latin American IT talent with US and European companies since 2016. It offers remote staffing, where it contracts, pays, and administers the professional in their country, plus IT recruiting for direct hire and a payroll service for teams you already have.

Strengths

  • Publishes all-in monthly QA automation rates by seniority and country tier, from $3,000 for junior roles to $7,125 for senior roles in its 2027 rate table.
  • States a 72-hour shortlist and a start in about 5 days, with talent in 18 countries.
  • Its QA page lists Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, API testing with Postman or REST Assured, and CI tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, and Jenkins.
  • Staffing includes unlimited replacements at no extra cost while the service runs; recruiting carries a 60-day replacement guarantee.

Trade-offs

  • The QA page describes what to assess and says shortlists are vetted for English and technical depth, but does not detail a QA-specific technical test.
  • By Interfell's own count, it has 23 staff and 210 active placed professionals, a smaller operation than the largest networks here, which matters for buyers hiring at enterprise volume.

Pricing structure: For staffing, 80% of the monthly invoice goes to the professional and 20% to Interfell. Recruiting and sourcing plans are priced separately.

Best for: Teams that want to budget against published rates and choose among many countries.

3. Revelo: Best for month-to-month terms and a large network

Revelo runs nearshore staffing across 18 Latin American countries, with payroll, benefits, taxes, and compliance handled through its PEO infrastructure. QA engineers are full-time, dedicated, and report to the client's managers.

Strengths

  • Cites a network of 400,000+ vetted engineers, a 72-hour shortlist of three to five candidates, and a 14-day average time to hire.
  • Its QA vetting covers test automation frameworks, CI/CD pipeline integration, test case design, and regression strategy, followed by a live interview with a senior technical reviewer.
  • Month-to-month engagements with no long-term contract and no cancellation penalty, plus a 14-day risk-free trial.

Trade-offs

  • Published all-in rates sit at the higher end of this list, from $4,600 per month for junior roles to $10,700 for senior roles.
  • The 14-day trial window is shorter than the 90-day or 180-day replacement windows other providers publish.

Pricing structure: All-in monthly rate combining engineer pay, PEO coverage, and Revelo's margin; no placement fee.

Best for: Teams that want flexible headcount and can use a large candidate pool.

4. Hire With Near: Best for choosing between staffing and direct hire

Hire With Near is a staffing and recruiting agency placing Latin American professionals with US companies across many functions. For QA, buyers pick a staffing model, where Near handles payroll, compliance, and benefits for a monthly fee, or a recruiting model with a one-time placement fee, where the buyer employs the hire through its own EOR or entity.

Strengths

  • Screens automation candidates on the framework a buyer's suite runs on, naming Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Appium for mobile, and Postman for API testing.
  • Separates manual testers, automation engineers, and hybrid QA engineers at intake.
  • Tests written English in context, with candidates describing defects and coverage decisions in the first-round interview.
  • Recruiting placements carry a 180-day free replacement window.

Trade-offs

  • States a shortlist in 3 to 5 days and a hire in about three weeks, slower than the fastest options here.
  • The QA page publishes candidate pay bands ($2,500 to $5,500 per month) but not Near's fee percentage.

Pricing structure: A percentage of monthly salary for staffing, or a one-time placement fee for recruiting.

Best for: Teams that may want to employ the QA engineer directly through an existing EOR or entity.

5. Nearshore Business Solutions: Best for focused hiring in Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil

Nearshore Business Solutions (NBS) offers nearshore recruitment, local recruitment, recruitment as a service, and staffing. For QA, it places engineers from Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil and handles compliance, benefits administration, and onboarding coordination.

Strengths

  • Its technical screen requires Cypress or Playwright proficiency with a CI-integrated test suite, plus live coding.
  • Verifies B2+ CEFR English in a live interview before any candidate reaches the client.
  • Screens for API testing (Postman, Newman, RestAssured) and CI tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and CircleCI.
  • Every placement carries a 90-day replacement guarantee.

Trade-offs

  • Coverage is limited to three countries.
  • States 14 to 21 days to place most roles, with senior SDET roles taking up to 28 days.
  • The QA page cites gross pay ranges but does not publish NBS's fee.

Pricing structure: Not published on the QA page as of November 2026; NBS quotes by headcount.

Best for: Teams that already prefer Colombia, Mexico, or Brazil and want a documented Cypress or Playwright screen.

6. Tecla: Best for a long trial window

Tecla is a nearshore staffing company focused on Latin America. It offers staff augmentation, where it handles the legal and compliance side, direct hire, agile nearshore teams, and fully managed projects.

Strengths

  • Publishes all-inclusive QA monthly rates: $4,000 junior, $5,800 mid-level, and $7,200 senior.
  • A 90-day risk-free trial lets buyers replace or remove a professional without notice; after that, a 30-day notice applies.
  • Cites a network of over 10,000 QA professionals and triple vetting for technical skills, English, and culture fit.

Trade-offs

  • The QA page does not describe how Tecla tests automation frameworks, and the sample profiles it shows lean toward Selenium and manual testing.
  • Because Tecla sells staffing and fully managed projects, buyers should confirm which model a contract covers.

Pricing structure: One all-inclusive monthly rate per professional, paid only after a hire.

Best for: Teams that want time to judge fit before committing.

7. BairesDev: Best for enterprises that may later hand off delivery

BairesDev employs 4,000+ Latin American engineers and sells staff augmentation, dedicated teams, and full software outsourcing. QA and testing is one of its listed services.

Strengths

  • Can staff a single QA engineer, a full team, or an outsourced project under one vendor.
  • States it can spin up teams of any size in 2 to 4 weeks.
  • Engineers adapt to the client's sprint cycles, tools, coding standards, and security requirements.

Trade-offs

  • Pricing is not published and requires a sales call as of November 2026.
  • Its FAQ does not document QA-specific framework screening, so test Cypress or Playwright depth yourself.
  • BairesDev staffs from its own employed bench, so candidates come from that pool.

Pricing structure: Quoted by role, seniority, and stack; BairesDev cites 30% to 50% lower total cost than US hiring.

Best for: Enterprise teams that want QA staffing now with the option to outsource delivery later.

8. Abstracta: Best when you want testing delivered as a managed service

Abstracta is a software testing and quality engineering firm founded in Uruguay in 2008, with offices in the US, the United Kingdom, and Latin America. It sits on this list as the managed QA reference point.

Strengths

  • Testing is its core business: functional testing, test automation, CI/CD integration and quality gates, performance, security, and accessibility testing.
  • Brings its own QA strategy and process, useful for teams without a QA lead.

Trade-offs

  • The vendor owns the deliverable, so suite knowledge stays partly with Abstracta unless the contract plans a handover.
  • Pricing and timelines are not published as of November 2026.

Pricing structure: Project or engagement quotes through a sales call.

Best for: Audits, certification pushes, one-off releases, and teams that want QA outcomes owned by a vendor.

How to test real QA automation fit

Whichever provider you choose, run your own technical evaluation against your stack. A provider that names Cypress or Playwright on its site may still send candidates who learned one tool on a single project. The checks below separate an engineer who maintains a suite from one who can design it.

What to checkWhat to ask or assignStrong signalRed flag
Framework fit (Cypress or Playwright)Why they would pick one over the other for your appNames trade-offs such as browser coverage, parallelization, and multi-tab or iframe handlingKnows one tool and calls it the only option

QA ownershipWho owns the test plan and release sign-offClear answer that matches your modelExpects a vendor lead to set priorities you meant to own

Use a short, paid work sample

Give finalists one real flow from your app, such as signup or checkout, and two to three hours to automate it in your framework. Review the code the way you review production code: structure, naming, waits, and data setup. Ask the candidate to walk through it live, because the explanation shows whether they can teach the suite to your developers.

Match seniority to the job

A team with an existing framework can add a mid-level engineer who extends it. A team starting from zero or migrating from Selenium to Playwright needs a senior engineer who has stood up a framework, wired it into CI, and coached developers to keep it green. Tell the provider which case you are in at intake.

Senior QA automation engineers often share ownership of CI pipelines with DevOps and infrastructure engineers, so include your DevOps lead in the interview loop.

Decide ownership before you sign

If your engineering manager will set QA priorities, buy embedded staffing. If you want a vendor to own coverage targets and release sign-off, buy managed QA. Mixing the two in one contract tends to blur who answers for an escaped defect.

Next step

If a QA automation engineer embedded in your product team is the right fit, talk to Howdy's team about the role.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between QA staff augmentation and QA outsourcing?

With staff augmentation, a QA engineer joins your team full time and your managers direct the work. With QA outsourcing, a vendor owns a testing deliverable and manages its own testers. Pick augmentation for ongoing product quality and outsourcing for audits or one-off releases.

How much does a QA automation engineer cost through a LatAm provider?

Published all-in monthly rates on the provider pages reviewed here run from $3,000 (Interfell's 2027 rate table) to $10,700 (Revelo, checked November 2026), depending on seniority, country, and provider. Fees and inclusions differ, so compare what each rate covers. Howdy's QA engineer cost guide breaks down salary data by country.

How long does it take to hire a QA automation engineer in LatAm?

Providers on this list state first candidates in 24 hours to 5 business days and hires in 1 to 4 weeks. Senior SDET searches and multi-round interview loops take longer.

Do LatAm QA engineers work US hours?

Most LatAm countries sit between US Pacific time and two hours ahead of US Eastern time, which supports live standups and same-day bug triage. Confirm hours against your deploy windows at intake.

Should I hire for Cypress or Playwright?

Hire for the framework your suite already runs on, or for the one your team plans to standardize on. Test framework reasoning in the interview, because a strong engineer can explain when each tool fits.

Who owns the test code a nearshore QA engineer writes?

Can I hire a LatAm QA engineer directly?

Yes. Recruiting-only options from Hire With Near, Interfell, and Tecla let you employ the engineer through your own entity or an EOR. You then handle payroll, benefits, and compliance yourself or through that EOR.

How do I check whether a provider really screens for Cypress or Playwright?

Ask the provider to describe its technical exercise, who reviews it, and what a failing answer looks like. Then run your own short work sample with finalists. A tool named on a provider's site counts as a claim until the provider shows the test.

How much test automation coverage should a new QA hire target?

The World Quality Report 2025-26 found organizations automate an average of 33% of test cases. The same report recommends measuring release velocity, defect containment, and customer impact over the percentage automated. Start with your highest-risk flows and expand from there.

Should a QA automation engineer use AI tools to write tests?

Many teams already do: Respondents to the World Quality Report 2025-26 said about 25% of their new automated scripts were generated with Gen AI tools. Ask candidates how they review AI-generated tests, because your team stays accountable for what ships.

What English level does a QA automation engineer need?

Written English matters most, because bug reports and test documentation are the role's main output. Nearshore Business Solutions, for example, verifies B2+ CEFR English in a live interview. Add a written bug report to your own interview loop.
